National Center for Supported eText (NCSeT) - 0 views

shared by Patti Porto on 16 Feb 10 - Cached

"The National Center for Supported eText (NCSeT) at the University of Oregon is a federally funded research center investigating the impact of "supported electronic text" (or supported etext) on students' comprehension of content area material. Supported etext is digital text that has been modified in ways that are designed to increase access and support comprehension. These modifications are categorized by the role they play in the reading process - leading to a typology of eleven types of etext supports (Anderson-Inman & Horney, 2007). The NCSeT Typology provides the conceptual framework for the research supported by NCSeT."

TeachPaperless: IEP Recommendation: Mobile Access - 1 views

  • mobile tech is the single best vehicle for addressing the confidence and practical needs of many of our kids with learning differences
  • I don't mean to say that the tech itself is the 'difference', what I am trying to say is that the tech -- and especially the personalized and always-on facet of mobile tech -- will provide the connection to the tools, the teachers, and the interventions that will make the difference in a way both unique and also requiring a re-thinking in terms of how we offer relevant services to students with learning differences.
  • we need to explain to developers what we and our students need from them
  • ...3 more annotations...
  • Even better, we should be calling for Ed Schools to provide instruction in app making and digital design so that we -- the teachers -- have the capacity to program our own teaching.
  • we need to push now for an end to the access issues facing all of our schools
  • Let's make districts come to the realization that mobile devices and mobile access are the point-of-entry for learning right now. Let's put state funded devices in the hands of kids who need them and let all kids bring their own INTELLECTUAL EMPOWERMENT DEVICES to class.

PART ONE: A Detailed Look at the Paraprofessional Job-Embedded Curriculum, and a GIVEAW... - 6 views

  • My last post introduced you to this valuable curriculum resource. As I said in that post, the timing of taking a closer look at paraprofessional staff development is purposeful at this point of the year. When reviewing IEPs and writing new ones for next year, we look forward to how students will be supported within general education successfully. Paraprofessionals are a piece of that puzzle that cannot and should not be overlooked or under-acknowledged. I do not believe everyone needs a paraprofessional to be successful in general education classrooms and settings, but when individual needs warrant it, then those paraprofessionals must be trained to do their jobs well.
